Toledo...

Ah Toledo! We spent a most delicious day strolling through the streets of this medieval city. The town is often referred to as "la ciudad de las tres culturas" or the City of Three Cultures as it was at one time or another the flourishing capital of Muslims, Jews and Christians. Nowdays, it is most commonly associated with marzipan and Damascene swords!

They say the way in Toledo is always uphill...this is a pretty accurate description.

We started our day with a walk through the Plaza de Zocodover, and then on past the cathedral. We visisted the Igelsia de los Jesuitas, or Church of the Jesuits, and climbed the bell tower for the most spectacular views of the town.

We also visited the El Greco museum, which was the Greek painter's home and now houses 19 of his paintings. The museum has been modeled to represent the artist's original home and studio.

After arriving back at the hotel yesterday in a state of near exhaustion, we aimed to take a more leisurely approach to our day trip to Toledo. We hit upon the perfect system...walk a few hundred metres, stop at a cafe, order a beer and some tapas, watch the people...and start all over again!
